Finding a job can be tough, especially in a competitive field like data science. It can take hours just to find the right role for your skillset, and once you do find the right role there are already “200+ applicants” on LinkedIn. Before my data science bootcamp, I thought I was an expert at applying to jobs — mostly because I could send out 20+ applications a day. Now, I realize, it’s not about sending as many applications as possible but making sure that the applications you do send are seen by the hiring team.

When you apply through LinkedIn or a company’s site, you have no idea if anyone will ever view your application or if it will just be automatically deleted by their Application Tracking System (ATS). More often than not, if you can get a recruiter or hiring manager to actually look at your resume they WILL want to talk to you. There’s just a huge barrier between the applicant and the hiring team, and with 1000s of people applying to 1000s of jobs every day, it makes sense. But, there are other methods out there that can seriously boost your chances of getting around this barrier.
